Potential Cause of Frequent Lower Jaw Pain

Some people tend to experience episodes of frequent lower jaw pain and even headaches in some cases. This can be very discomforting, and many people have no clue as to what the cause may be. This is known as temporomandibular disorder or TMD. The Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) has found a potential cause.

Poor posture can actually be a cause of this type of pain. The AGD claims that when you are positioned with poor posture, your spine tends to be in a position that increases stress to your jaw joint. This is a result of your lower jaw shirting forward, typically when you are hunched over/forward.

Ludwig Leibsohn, DDS, a spokesperson for the AGD claims, “Good posture is important, yet many people don’t realize how posture affects their oral health.”

Though attempting to position yourself with better posture may be a solution to this issue, we recommend you speak with your dentist regarding this issue. Your dentist will be able to better diagnose this pain and provide treatment for it.
